by YaDig Staff on Mar.04, 2009, under Entertainment

jay-z-covers-best-life-magazine

Our boy Jay-Z is gracing the cover of Best Life Magazine which is a spin-off of Men’s Health Magazine and focuses on advice that empowers men physically, emotionally, and financially.  During the interview Jay-Z explains the source of his past beefs and misunderstandings

“I’m a mirror . . . If you’re cool with me, I’m cool with you, and the exchange starts. What you see is what you reflect. If you don’t like what you see, then you’ve done something. If I’m standoffish, that’s because you are.”

Kanye Working with Jay-Z, Beyonce, & New Album

by YaDig Staff on Feb.17, 2009, under Entertainment

kanye_west

Our boy Kanye is working his ass off right now.  He is working on Jay-Z’s new album, The Blueprint 3, he told Sway on the The Wake Up Show

kanye_west2

“I finished his album and he released four songs that were potentially gonna be on the album. So I gotta go back and do four. I just did one beat the other day in Hawaii — probably one of the best hip-hop beats of all time, if I do say so myself. I just gotta do three more beats and we’re done, ’cause he’s got classics. He’s got songs that are better than any of the things you’ve heard leaked.”

jay-kanye

“You know what it was — every year I do two albums’ worth of really dope beats. This year, Common did his album with Pharrell, and I did 808s & Heartbreak and Blueprint 3. So just imagine the caliber of beats on the last two Common albums I did — Jay-Z has those types of beats. Those caliber of beats. A beat like ‘The People,’ that’s the highest caliber of beat.”

Kanye has also started on his next album, and is working with Beyonce on a new song. He told MTV.com

beyonce-kanye

I’m just gonna do what I’m gonna do and people are gonna love it because I do really fresh s**t. When I do it, I feel like I’m gonna rap, I’m gonna go back-and-forth on it. I feel like I’m gonna sing here and there. Because I used Auto-Tune so much, it put me in the mode of doing melodies. I got a new song coming out with Beyonce called ‘Ego.’ I don’t know why she wanted me on it. I didn’t use Auto-Tune, but I hit certain lines because I used it so much it’s like almost having training wheels. So it’s incorporating new styles.”

I am looking forward to Ye’ new album coming out.  I had no problem with him breaking off and doing 808’s and Heartbreak.  I challenge other artists to change things up a little bit and doing things a little differently.  But Kanye dont forget you are not a singer.  Please believe me I aint trying to hear you attempting to sing especially without Auto-Tune.

Here are some extra clips from Sway’s interview with Kanye:

Kanye on Wearing Tight Jeans: ”I see a lot of people wearing the exact same uniform and there’s nothing wrong with that. But at what point did hip-hop get so many rules? Hip-hop was about breaking rules. I’m one of the most hip-hop people on earth because I say and do exactly what the f— I wanna do and say, regardless of what type of backlash I get. The backlash I get right now — for dressing the way I dress or saying what I say or making music I do — that’s the same backlash I got in high school for being hip-hop. I was always two steps ahead and I thought that was what hip-hop was. The whole baggy jeans versus tight jeans thing — Run DMC, Fat Boys, they wore tight jeans with gyms shoes and that was hip-hop. Then people started wearing big jeans and that was supposed to be hip-hop. When I first did big jeans, people said that was ’skater.’ Now you think ’skater’ and that’s super tight jeans. … They keep trying to label me but the labels won’t stick.”

Kanye on the Sample of Run’s “Jockin’ Jay-Z”: “[Run] says, ‘I see you jockin’ J.C.’ But it sounds like ‘Jay-Z.’ And I had the idea from the last album. I was like, man, I just need to make a beat ’cause it just messes with people’s heads. Psychologically, they’re like, ‘How could he have said “jockin’ Jay-Z” 20 years ago? Jay-Z was not out.’ I love stuff that messes with people’s heads when it happens.”

Kanye on MCs Throwing Jabs at Him: “I was hooping the other day and was like, ‘Why do all rappers come at me?’ ‘Cause we were playing 21. And I was like, ‘Oh, rappers come at me ’cause I got 19.’ When you got 19 and you playing 21, everybody rushes for you and you gotta come with extra types of lay-ups and stuff. Basically I’m playing the game with 19.”

Jay-Z Shows Support for Rihanna

by YaDig Staff on Feb.16, 2009, under Entertainment

GRAMMYS/

Jay-Z is showing his support for Rihanna during the whole Chrihanna drama.

“You have to have compassion for others,” Jay-Z, 39, told People magazine. “Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that.”

rihanna_jay_z-spirit

The hip-hop mogul helped Rihanna, 20, launch her career and some reports said he was furious at her boyfriend, Chris Brown, for allegedly beating her up after a pre-Grammysparty last weekend.

He took a more conciliatory note, not mentioning Brown in a brief interview in Phoenix, where he attended the NBA All-Star weekend.

“I just think we should all support her. She’s going through a tough time,” Jay-Z said. “You have to realize she’s a young girl, as well. She’s very young.”

Rihanna was allegedly attacked inLos Angeles on Feb. 8 by boyfriend Brown, 19. He was arrested and the L.A. prosecutor is preparing charges against him.

The “Umbrella” singer suffered bruises and a split lip and has not been seen in public since.

Relatives said she fled to her homeland of Barbados where she is staying with friends while she recovers.

Asked if he’d seen Rihanna, Jay-Z refused to comment. “I don’t want to go into it,” he said.

Right after news of the beat-down surfaced last weekend, several media outlets reported that Jay-Z was furious at Brown for hitting Rihanna, whom he considers a protege.

They pointed to his low-key performance at the Grammys as evidence that he was upset over the attack, which forced Rihanna and Brown to scrap planned appearances at the gala.

Pals of the Brooklyn-born rapper were quoted as saying he planned to order street revenge on Brown.  Sources close to Jay-Z told the News those reports were ridiculous and he was only worried about Rihanna’s well-being.

When everyone heard the rumor about Jay-Z planning street revenge on Chris Brown knew that it was a crazy ass report.  The sad thing about all this is that Chris can’t get support from anyone.  Everyone from T.I. to Terrence Howard who made some reference of support for Chris retracted their statement the next day.  Chris right now has to be in a lonely place.

TI, Jay-Z, Kanye, Jeezy to perform together/Ross Goes in on 50 (audio)

by YaDig Staff on Jan.27, 2009, under Ya Heard

T.I. and Jay-Z’s hit collaboration with Kanye West and Lil Wayne, “Swagga Like Us,” has been heating up the airwaves for months, but the record didn’t blow up as much as expected because there was no video and the four artists never performed it together. The latter is about to change as MTV.com reports that the rappers will perform “Swagga Like Us” at next month’s Grammy Awards.

Rick Ross takes Shot at 50 cent

Miami-based rapper Rick Ross warned that he’d be firing a lyrical shot at his enemies in the coming weeks and he’s come out blazing on his new song, “Mafia Music.” MTV.com reports that in the song Ross disses 50 Cent and accuses him of setting the suspicious fire at his ex-girlfriend’s mansion last May.

I love to pay ya bills, can’t wait to pay ya rent/ Curtis Jackson baby mama, I ain’t looking for a cent/ Burn the house down …You gotta buy another/ Don’t forget the gas can, jealous, stupid mutha****er.”

Short Dig- Kanye on 50/Jim Jones on Ne-Yo/Jay-Z on Blueprint 3/Federline on DWTS?

by YaDig Staff on Jan.23, 2009, under Entertainment, Ya Joking

Anybody else wondering how many books is Kanye standing on?

Rapper 50 Cent has been taking shots at Kanye West since before their infamous Soundscan showdown of 2007 which resulted in West’s Graduation selling 957,000 copies its first week in stores to beat 50 Cent’s Curtis, which moved 691,000 copies. More recently, 50 Cent has made fun of West’s “Love Lockdown” during performances and has questioned the rapper’s sexuality on mix tape songs such as “Play This On The Radio.”

Kanye told Bossip.com

He was my favorite rapper since Mase when he dropped, and when I used to be around him, he was one of the few people that I was like really fan of. I was nervous in the studio working on beats and hoping that I could do a good beat for him. This is even when I had College Dropout and Jesus Walks. Jay Z and 50 are just two of those type of guys you really want to make some good music for. So, for me as a fan of him I felt like if he said something negative and tried to make it like I’m negative it’s almost like if a little kid walks up to you at the airport and is like, ‘Man, I love you so much,” and then you spit on him it’s like (in a joking voice) “I don’t know if I love you as much as I used to,” as you wipe the spit off your face, but you still play their music.

Bill O’Reilly and and Dennis Miller on Jay-Z and Young Jeezy

by YaDig Staff on Jan.22, 2009, under Entertainment, Ya Seen on the Scene

When this video was running rampant on the internet we all knew that good ole FOX News was going to get  a hold of it and tear it apart.  Bill O’Reilly and Dennis Miller don’t understand how black people feel about Prez Bush and that whole administration and thats cool as Dennis Miller says this is really not a big deal.

They were doing this in front of black folk, President Obama doesn’t have to denounce, renounce, object, disregard anything that Jay-Z or Jeezy said thank God.  White people have been doing the same thing for years talking sh*t about black people and you know they are doing it now about President Obama and he is just 2 days into his Presidency.

by YaDig Staff on Jan.19, 2009, under Entertainment, Ya Joking, Ya Seen on the Scene

_12275569939782 Notorious Movie Poster

And I thought there would be no violence this weekend over the “Notorious” weekend.

Violence marred an afterparty for the recent release of the Biggie biopic, “Notorious,” leaving four men stabbed in a New York City nightclub.

According to the Associated Press, a party advertised as the afterparty for the film premiere, left a 21-year-old man in critical condition after being stabbed numerous time, while three others were stable.

The stabbing took place at the Djumbala club is in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn on Saturday (January 17).

At press time, what sparked the incident is unknown, and police would not release any further information.

While the party had been promoted as the “official” afterparty, “Notorious” distributor, Fox Searchlight, said it was not related.

Can’t take negroes nowhere.
