Stevie Wonder Honored by President Obama at White House
by YaDig Staff on Feb.26, 2009, under Entertainment

Last night was all about Stevie Wonder at the White House as the stars lined up to present the music legend with the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize For Popular Song. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at the White House infront of 150 invited guests about how much Stevie Wonder’s music has meant to them over the years.

“I think it’s fair to say that had I not been a Stevie Wonder fan, Michelle might not have dated me. We might not have married. The fact that we agreed on Stevie was part of the essence of our courtship.”

And check out what Stevie Wonder had to say after getting the award…

Bill O’Reilly and and Dennis Miller on Jay-Z and Young Jeezy
by YaDig Staff on Jan.22, 2009, under Entertainment, Ya Seen on the Scene
When this video was running rampant on the internet we all knew that good ole FOX News was going to get a hold of it and tear it apart. Bill O’Reilly and Dennis Miller don’t understand how black people feel about Prez Bush and that whole administration and thats cool as Dennis Miller says this is really not a big deal.
They were doing this in front of black folk, President Obama doesn’t have to denounce, renounce, object, disregard anything that Jay-Z or Jeezy said thank God. White people have been doing the same thing for years talking sh*t about black people and you know they are doing it now about President Obama and he is just 2 days into his Presidency.
Pictures from Oprah and Obama’s Secret Dinner
by YaDig Staff on Jan.22, 2009, under Ya Seen on the Scene

President Obama and Oprah had a secret dinner with special invited guests that took place on Monday at the Blair House. The band that performed for them was a Chicago Group – The Band of Paquito D’Rivera- led by Mark Walker
Walker said Michelle Obama was already at the party when the band arrived. Winfrey walked in solo, and Barack Obama followed shortly after as the band was playing Miles Davis — an Obama favorite.
“You know, I’m a big Miles Davis fan,” the drummer said Obama told him. “You did your homework.”
“[Winfrey] came in, noticed we were playing and gave us a thumbs up,” Walker said. Later, the Chicago talk show host posed for a picture with the band.
Walker said guests sat at five round tables and feasted on ribs, sweet potatoes, fried chicken, salmon, macaroni and cheese, pie, ice cream and brownies. They also drank Pinot Nior from California, he said.
Winfrey — who sat two seats away from Obama and across from his wife, Michelle– looked great, Walker said.
“They were talking the whole time, having a good time,” Walker said. “I had read somewhere that [Winfrey] was down on herself, but I thought she looked great.”
Wouldn’t you like to be a fly on the wall at that dinner.

Beyonce to Sing ‘At Last’ for First Couple
by YaDig Staff on Jan.19, 2009, under Entertainment

Well we know what Beyonce will be singing for the First Couple during the first dance at the Neighborhood Ball on Tuesday and now we know she will be singing ‘At Last’ from the movie “Cadillac Records” where played the role of Etta James.
“I am so honored that I will be performing for President Obama and the first lady,” the singer tells Entertainment Tonight. “I could not be more honored and excited that they have asked me to be part of this moment in history.”
I still find it amazing how huge this inauguration. I mean its like its all-star weekend in D.C. Just shows what kind of hope that President Obama has instilled in all Americans and the excitement of having a black president.
President Obama Writes a Letter to His Daughters
by YaDig Staff on Jan.15, 2009, under Ya Heard

In an attempt to make more people love him (Just Jokkin) Obama wrote a letter to his daughters that will appear in the next issue of Parade Magazine.
Dear Malia and Sasha,
I know that you’ve both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn’t have let you have. But I also know that it hasn’t always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn’t make up for all the time we’ve been apart. I know how much I’ve missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.
When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I’d make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn’t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that’s why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.
I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential-schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college-even if their parents aren’t rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.
Stuff like this makes you hate the Obama Haters more dont it. To read the entire letter click here
Ya Think? Politics – Do You Understand Pres. Obama Economic Plan
by YaDig Staff on Jan.09, 2009, under Ya Think
Yesterday President-Elect Barack Obama had a press conference about the economy and basically said that sh*t dont look too good. Now I got from the press conference that President-Elect Obama wants to introduce tax cuts and give another stimulus to the people to get the economy going in the right direction so I am thinking this is all a great idea.
But then I read the Chicago Suntimes this morning and see this:
A call for a $3,000 tax break for job creation drew particular criticism in a private meeting, and numerous lawmakers said Obama had not ticketed enough of his tax proposal for energy projects. The second-guessing game from the left and the right: While some Democrats said the incoming administration’s proposed tax cuts were too small, Republicans warned against excessive new spending.
So not everybody is too thrilled with this plan of action. So since I dont know what to think I decided to call my man Dr. Marc Lamont Hill of Temple University to break all of this down for me. Dr. Hill is considered a “hip hop” intelectual:
His work, which covers topics such as hip-hop culture, politics, sexuality, and education, and religion, has appeared in numerous journals, magazines, books, and anthologies.
So I figured he would be the perfect person to break all this economic stuff down so even I can understand it.
